The cliffs at the southern end of the beach provide shelter from SW winds and there is often a good left-hander to be found here. At the northern end of the beach is the River Gannel which can form a quality right hand sandbank.
Crantock is generally best at mid/low tide. It requires a fair sized swell to get going and is dead offshore in a south easterly
