Thomas' Porth, also known as Porth Thomas, is just east of Hugh Town. If you're just here for the day but want to escape the bustle of the town, this pretty little beach is a good option. Don't be alarmed by its local name of "Shark's Pit": this simply refers to the rocky section of the beach, where Scilly's kids and visitors have scrambled and explored the rockpools for generations.

The sandy beach makes a good place to relax for a while, looking out towards the neighbouring islands and watching the boats pass by. Your four-pawed companion is welcome to join you, provided they're kept on a lead.

If you walk towards Porthloo from Thomas' Porth, you'll come across "Pillbox Number 14". This WWII defence would have been deployed to protect Hugh Town and the potentially good landing conditions at Thomas' Porth.
