Porthgwarra Beach - West Cornwall

Cornwall Beaches > West Cornwall > Porthgwarra Beach

Secluded, relatively unknown Cornish Cove largely owned by Lord St Levan (of St Micheal's Mount). Located just under 3 miles southeast of Lands End.

There is a tiny beach at low tide with an array of interesting rock pools and caves. There are lots of reminders of Porthgwarra's fishing heritage but now only one boat regularly works crab pots from here.

Swimming is relatively safe within the confines of the Cove but with no lifeguards and strong currents further out to sea caution is advised.

One of Porthgwarra's most interesting features is the cave running through part of the cliff; there is a rope to hang on to as it's treacherously slippery. Sometimes of an evening bats may be seen flying in and out of the cave.

directions: Head towards Lands End on the A30. After passing through Sennen (about 8 miles) turn left onto the B3315 road. Before taking the turning to Porthcurno you will reach Polgigga (with a duck pond on left) From here head right (not the private road) and follow the windy road down to the cove.
