Hannafore Beach

Fabulous coastline, great views of st George’s island and dog friendly all year round. Not a sandy beach, close to south west path for longer walks and good selection of cafes near by, plenty of free parking.

What this beach lacks in golden sand, it more than makes up for in beauty, privacy and interest and accessibility!  I have never had to park more than a couple of streets away and never had to sit “cheek by jowl” with another family (except for one occasion when some people decided that 2 feet away from us was the only place they wanted to be on an otherwise almost empty beach!). At all times apart from the peak of high tide, the low outcrops of rocks create little “bays” and you can usually find one to yourself where the sand, while a little coarse still forms pretty satisfactory castles. Examining rockpools and finding prettily coloured shells are almost irresistible pastimes. The beach is accessed by a choice of sets of steps but there is a wide path that runs along the top of these which is fully wheelchair accessible.  There are well kept toilets accessed from this path and a kiosk selling ice cream, drinks, sandwiches etc as well as a few buckets, spades & postcards. On the other side of the (very quiet) road are a hotel with restaurant, bar and other facilities*, another restaurant and a cafe. There are also tennis courts and a bowling/putting green*.  Looe Island makes the view particularly attractive. The downsides are that the rocks can get very “seaweedy” and therefore very slippery for climbing on and there are no lifeguards. The nearest shops and amusement arcades are 10 to 15 mins. walk away..

* Of course, which of this things is open will depend on Covid restrictions.

The beach was very busy. Lots of old seaweed so a little smelly.

Quite and lots of rock pools to explore but it’s mostly covered in sea weed which is slippy and extremely hard to avoid if you find a space with no seaweed then it’s lovely very peaceful and kids would love it too and dogs
