Carbis Bay - West Cornwall
Cornwall Beaches > West Cornwall > Carbis Bay
Large sheltered sandy beach suitable for families with plenty of facilities close by.
The beach is protected both by it's aspect and the large tree covered cliffs - a rarity on the North Cornish Coast. At lower tides it is possible to walk past the headland at the eastern end of the beach to Porthkidney Sands
directions:
Take beach turning in Carbis Bay on the coast road between Lelant and St Ives and go all the way down the steep hill.
Also convenient for train and bus.
Carbis Bay map: Drag the map with your mouse to navigate and use the + and - buttons to zoom in and out.
parking: Plenty of parking available in beachfront carpark
Surfing at Carbis Bay
Occasionally good surf but takes a BIG swell to get going as it is fairly sheltered. When it does work there can be a wedgey, sometimes hollow wave at the right end of the beach. It is however affected by back-wash towards higher tides.
Works on winds from sothwest round to NNW.
Dogs: No dogs (Easter to October)
facilities: Beach shop, cafe and toilets. Also has a lost child centre, first aid post
Nearest town: St Ives
